This season has been slower, and with that comes time to rest. Sometimes it feels like we don’t get much rest around here. Normally, when we come back after our August/September break, we hit the ground running until Christmas, but this year we have a few weeks off.
With a slower season comes fewer exciting blog posts or updates to share. It feels strange to say, but I have started collecting and organizing our January/February team information. We have dental and surgery teams coming at the beginning of the year! But first we have to finish out our November teams. We have a bio-med team coming in November, and we spent a day compiling a list of all the clinic equipment. We also have a surgery team coming to help complete uro-gyn surgeries, followed by barrio teams that will also do some education.
Earlier this year, I took over submitting our public health packets. While that has been quite the learning curve, I think I have a good system now. Anyways, last week I needed to respond to an issue with a packet, and the only way to contact the department was by email. So I typed my email and sent it to what I could only imagine would be an email no one would answer. To my surprise, or by God’s grace, I received a response the same day! I’ll be honest, I think I told our team, “Guys, someone responded to my email! Of all the things I never thought would happen.” Listen, I’ll be honest, I never imagined, in all the things that function less than perfectly in the DR, that my email would ever get a response. Thank God for minor victories!
Sadly, I have spent the last two weeks being sick. I got so sick and felt so terrible that I took myself to the clinic last week for some fluids and nausea meds. I’m so thankful to walk into the clinic and know, first, that I’ll be cared for, and second, that friends will also check on me. Thankfully, after a trip to the clinic and starting antibiotics, I am starting to feel better.
For a while now, I have wanted to start going to the gym. With the arrival of Bravo, the grocery store, to San Juan also came a Smart Fit gym! So Madison and I joined yesterday! I’m hoping that joining with Madison will keep me motivated to keep going.
That’s really all I have for now.
Prayer Requests:
– Continued health for my Sister (she is just over halfway done with Radiation)
– Rest during slow time
– Preparation for the start of 2027
